Patient Interaction:
Greet patients and explain nuclear medicine procedures to ensure
understanding and alleviate anxiety.
Provide emotional support and maintain patient comfort during
imaging procedures.
Assess patient history and prepare appropriate documentation.
Imaging Procedures:
Administer radiopharmaceuticals intravenously, orally, or by other
approved methods based on the procedure.
Operate imaging equipment (such as gamma cameras, PET/CT scanners,
and SPECT) to acquire high-quality diagnostic images.
Monitor and adjust equipment settings as needed to ensure the best
possible images are captured.
Capture both static and dynamic images to assess physiological
functions and conditions.
Radiation Safety:
Adhere to safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and the
environment from unnecessary radiation exposure.
Monitor radiation levels and use shielding and protective measures
to minimize exposure.
Maintain accurate radiation dose records for patients and
staff.
Quality Control & Maintenance:
Perform regular maintenance and calibration of nuclear medicine
imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to imaging
equipment.
Maintain the cleanliness and sterilization of imaging equipment and
work areas.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, and
other healthcare professionals to discuss patient results and
provide imaging insights.
Assist with the interpretation of images and provide technical
support for diagnostic procedures.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all HIPAA
regulations.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including
radiopharmaceutical administration and imaging results.
Document patient care procedures, radiopharmaceutical dosages, and
any adverse reactions.
Ensure images are properly labeled, stored, and transferred to the
appropriate systems for physician review.
Continuing Education:
Stay updated on the latest techniques, technology, and safety
protocols in nuclear medicine.
Participate in relevant professional development activities,
including certifications and trainings.
Qualifications
Education:
Associate's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related
field from an accredited program.
Licenses/Certifications:
Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine or Nuclear Medicine
Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
State licensure (if required by state law).
Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
(ACLS) certification may be required.
Experience:
Minimum of [1-2] years of experience in a clinical nuclear medicine
setting is preferred.
Experience with PET/CT, SPECT, or gamma cameras is
advantageous.
Skills:
Proficient in operating nuclear medicine imaging equipment.
Strong understanding of radiopharmaceuticals and their
administration.
Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and medical imaging
techniques.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
Strong problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills.
